The Azul Freediving Challenge is an international freediving competition in Riviera Maya bringing together athletes, instructors and depth lovers for two weeks of training, workshops and official depth performances.
To celebrate 10 years of the Azul Freediving Challenge, this special anniversary edition expands far beyond a traditional competition format.
Over two weeks, athletes and freedivers from around the world will gather in the Riviera Maya for an immersive experience combining official depth competition, workshops, training sessions, conferences and community events.
From cenote training and equalization workshops to static apnea, official ranking dives and the signature 70m Challenge, this extended edition is designed for both experienced competitors and first-time athletes seeking high-level coaching and unforgettable moments.
To mark this special anniversary, the event introduces a community raffle featuring prizes offered by sponsors and freediving brands from around the world.
Athletes will earn raffle tickets based on their performances throughout the competition, while additional tickets will be available for purchase during the event and online. More than a traditional prize system, the raffle is designed to celebrate participation, community spirit and shared experience — giving everyone a chance to win.
The Azul Freediving Challenge 10th anniversary concludes with a special anniversary celebration bringing together athletes, safeties, judges, partners and the wider freediving community.
The 10 Year Anniversary Edition of the Azul Freediving Challenge will take place from September 14th to 27th, 2026. Over two weeks, the event will bring together athletes, instructors and freedivers from around the world through training sessions, workshops, conferences, official ranking dives and community events across the Riviera Maya.
The main competition will take place from September 25th to 27th, alongside the signature 70m Challenge and the anniversary celebration marking 10 years of the event.

The Azul Freediving Challenge takes place between Playa del Carmen and some of the Riviera Maya’s most iconic cenotes. Main activities and competition sessions are held at Cenote Yum Kin, a world-class freediving location reaching 87m depth with ideal conditions for training and performance.
Warm water, no waves and no current create a unique environment for both first-time competitors and experienced athletes. Additional workshops and activities will also take place at Pranamaya Freediving House and other selected cenotes across the region.

Competition open to all certfied freediver who would like to enjoy competing and have fun with other freedivers, including a special challenge for deep diver and a workshop for beginners.

These open training sessions offer freedivers the opportunity to prepare in real cenote conditions ahead of the event. The sessions are structured to provide a balance between autonomy and coaching, allowing each athlete to focus on technique, adaptation and performance.
Each session includes personalized coaching with a maximum ratio of four divers per instructor, ensuring both safety and quality feedback. Up to three instructors may be present, allowing a total of twelve participants per day.
Bookings are made per day, giving flexibility to participants depending on their schedule and objectives.

The workshop includes theory in the morning followed by depth practice in the afternoon, supported by a full professional safety team.

The workshop follows a structured format with theory in the morning and depth practice in the afternoon.

Morning sessions focus on AIDA rules, competition strategy and preparation. Afternoon sessions include water practice, deep dives and technical coaching to help participants gain confidence before the competition.

This static apnea competition focuses on breath-hold performance in a controlled environment. It is open to all participants and judged according to official AIDA standards.

Live coverage will be provided throughout the competition, with potential underwater footage depending on technical conditions.

Athletes must announce a target depth of 70 meters and complete their dive within strict parameters, including a precise return time. This format highlights not only depth ability but also discipline, timing and mastery.

The start order is organized from the shallowest to the deepest announced dives.
